EK, where are you? EK, who are you?
This is the story of EK’s 1928 class ring from Oregon City High School, at least for the past 50 years and it’s time to find out the rest of the story. It’s time to get EK’s ring back for the 90th anniversary of her graduation next year.
Like EK, I went to Oregon City High School and the years in between us sitting in those classrooms are filled with so many stories. I would like to know what it was like for her. If she felt the same trepidation walking through the doors the first day as a freshman; if she loved English studies like I did, and struggled with math.
When I was a little girl my Grandma worked at Burmeister and Andresen Jewelers in Oregon City and when they moved a huge safe away from the wall as they closed their doors in 1967, they found this ring sleeping curled up with the dust bunnies there.
What they should have done in retrospect, was to go through forty-year old records and find the owner who either ordered it, brought it in to be sized, or to be cleaned and never got it back. What they did was give the ring to me. It’s very small and fit my hand and I wore it and loved it but always wondered who it belonged to. There was wear on it, the edges worn smooth so I know it had a life other than resting behind a safe waiting to be found years later.
Over the years I’ve made a few half-hearted attempts to find EK and return the ring, but ended up with lots of spam emails from some class sites or no answers at all. There’s another life lived in filling out the rest of the story of this ring and it’s time to find EK and get it back where it belongs.
My mission this year….and I accept. EK, where are you?
