The ever-changing rhetoric from day-to-day, hour-to-hour has our heads spinning wondering what is going on in the mind of Mr. Trump. And before you say anything; yes it does affect us tucked deeply in the Canadian north just as we’re watching the fireworks of his actions interspersed with our northern lights.
The lessons being taught to our youngsters from Pennsylvania Avenue are lessons of sanctioned bullying, disrespect and deliberate deception (aka lying). This is shameful and I see far-reaching implications as our role model in the highest office in the United States appears to be an out of control bully bolstered by his supporters. The ones hanging on to the coat tails of the bully in hopes of rising to the inner circle are also in danger of being flung off with the speed this Administration runs around the playground.
The word I’ve heard a lot this week is “courage”. We’re looking for our elected officials to have the courage to stand up to what is right. The fact that the traits we see displayed are cheered is troubling, too. The people traded in a gentleman and chose a bully.
It takes courage to stand up to a bully; it doesn’t take courage to choose one.
Talking about courage…..well, it’s sometimes hard to be courageous. I’ve experienced watching people I respected lack the courage to stand up to wrongs; to bullies. I’ve also seen courage grow out of this. The courage to make it right. The courage to stand up to wrong and make it right.
Let’s find the courage to demand respect, truth and leadership for the good of the many, not just the few. Integrity rocks! Let’s give it a try from the Oval Office on down.
