did I miss the call to action in all that rhetoric?

“You need to take a road trip away from your ivory tower and see how the real world lives. You’ll be ok, they have flush toilets and everything.”

It’s tough – I can’t discuss the election with my step-mom, an ardent Trump supporter so surprising after her support of Obama for so long. I can’t discuss the election with my friends who are firstly and most importantly concerned about their right to possess guns. Like so many, this election and now inauguration and the reality of today has stopped all constructive debate and discussion.

Trump’s team lauded him for writing the speech himself and it was evident that he did,  but he missed an important part; the call to action. We looked for a call to action. The plan. Not the promises, not the rhetoric but a call to action for each and every citizen to make it work.  It wasn’t there.

Sure, there is stuff going on. I look at dear Betsy…..who while basking in the glow of contribution payback is so ill fitted to the position she has been awarded, that she sets professional women back a century with her cringeworthy lack of awareness. Our education system is for more than the 1% you belong to and no, we aren’t fighting grizzlies in the school halls of public schools.  You need to take a road trip away from your ivory tower and see how the real world lives.  You’ll be ok, they have flush toilets and everything.

Hey Betsy!  I have an idea….. if you’re not busy this afternoon why don’t you go for a walk….a walk with the tens of thousands of women who are fighting to be recognized for their worth and contribution and the right not to be grabbed by the “you know what”.

The reality show rubber has hit the road in a big way and I just can’t imagine that we think this is ok. Then I watch the actions, the marches and crowds today and I am heartened to see that we don’t think it’s ok. There is hope.
