Did you ever think you’d hear so much about the base? Cambridge Oxford says the base is “the bottom part of an object, on which it rests, or the lowest part of something” which certainly fits in with how the word and concept has been bandied about in Trumpland.
When did playing to the base preclude the promise of unification and cooperation? Rhetorical question, because we can see cultural anxiety tweeted out every time the wind blows the hair on his thin skin and messes with his narcissistic view of himself.
Like the snickering little man on the bus bragging about reaching first base so to speak (remember the tape?) we see performance anxiety manifest in pissy little tweets to belittle anyone from other world leaders to colleagues to mayors.
We need someone focused on the whole game and not just one base.
