9 people, 6 days, a tribe and a mug

9 people in a room for six days.  Like really, really in a room.  Not leaving. And days are 12-14 hours long. That’s what it means to work for our election as an officer facilitating advanced voting opportunities for the masses.

I don’t care who you are, it still takes a big inhale and twinge of expectation and anticipation mixed up with the tiny insecurities we all pack around when you commit to in this case, 6 days of intense group dynamics.  Continue reading

perspective

IMG_3671.jpg

I remember a conversation with a friend when I said “I just don’t know where I fit” and the response was “well, right here. That’s where”.  This past few months since leaving the teams I was working with, it’s been a bit of a stress and pressure and an overwhelming feeling that I have to find a new “fit”.

Any time there’s a big change we struggle to find a place that doesn’t bind or pinch or slosh around like an overfilled wading pool. Maybe the fit is in our perspective of our here and now.  Maybe it’s ok to step back and change perspective.

A walk in the Ancient Forest near my house is healing and inspiring. Offering a note to be taken that today is a tiny piece of everything; that it’s ok to just breathe and be.

things that start with “I”

Interview suit – yup, using it.

Inspiration – the great feeling when I wrote a paper, developed a new presentation and enjoyed the feeling of being challenged and creative.

“It’s like riding a bike” – words from a friend.

Initiative –  don’t underestimate me.

Indebted  – “I’d be honoured”.  Words  from a long ago friend.

Inviting – the graciousness of some new people I met.

In – as in being “all in”. Nothing half-hearted.

Impassioned – loving the ability to share and change and build. Finding where the road goes.

it’s the little things making today great

Three  words shared ” heard a robin” and I smile.

This week has been a bit crazy.  I felt a little Kung Fu Panda as I suddenly had all these things to do, but the strength, wisdom ….and naps…..and cheesecake…..came through and like that fat bear, I made it through the week managing to embrace the warrior status fat bears aspire to.  Continue reading

Happy International Women’s Day

IMG_4038.JPG

Rather than patting myself on the back with a “you’ve come a long way, baby” superiority as I clicky click across the ballroom in my beautiful fuchsia high heels and black business suit, I want to ground myself with where I came from. With who I came from. I don’t look at the women who came before me as less than we are today just because they didn’t have the trappings we have. Quite the contrary, I admire them for the trails they blazed for me.  So we need to step back from this notion that WE are the women who have made it.  Continue reading

making me great again

“Never put passion in front of principle, even if you win, you’ll lose.” Mr. Miyagi

We’ve got some serious stuff going on in our world; serious, exciting, exhilarating and scary all at the same time.

It’s good that we care. There are those twirling noisemakers Continue reading

just listen

FullSizeRender.jpg

All my peeps know that there is nothing I love more than standing up in front of a crowd and presenting, motivating and teaching. But sometimes I just want to sit back and listen.

I need to just listen, to be filled up,  inspired with no other agenda than to soak it all in.

My treat to myself is to “do” TED x Seattle (formerly TED x Rainier) and just listen. Continue reading
